Hear the Silence

Zoë Demoustier | laGeste | Ultima Vez | KVS

A waltz rytm that wants to carry me to eternity,
music as a source of cadence
shimmers into grateful silence
the song does not last
too torn apart by countercurrents
dancing becomes a whirlwind
to outwit pain
and never loose touch.

impressie van Katelijne Onghena

Hear The Silence is a contemporary call to dance and music as acts of resistance through connection in uncertain times. A search for resilience and hope.

"Silence doesn't exist. Just like there is no zero point. Luckily. That would drive us insane. Silence only exists in the gaps between sound. Out of that, everything is born. Listen."

Zoë Demoustier

'It is within this danced narrative that art takes the form of a space for collective resilience and questions what remains of tenderness in a world under tension.'

Hear the Silence explores the need for embrace in times of disruption.
The starting point is the waltz, once a symbol of European refinement as a music and a dance, but in the 20th century shaken by underlying tensions.
Seven dancers and a musician revisit the waltz and deconstruct the dance form.
In search of collective resilience through a reconstruction with old debris, new compositions and parallels with the present emerge.
Hear the Silence is a contemporary plea for dance and music as a form of resistance and connection in uncertain times.

Hear the Silence celebrates what humanity has so often lost throughout its history: the strength to support one another rather than bring each other down. This makes the performance a celebration for those who love music, those who love dance, and those who love the world.

'Ravel broke the Viennese waltz open in dramatic fashion. In her turn, Demoustier deconstructs and reassembles the couple dance but in a much more minimalist way. She counters Ravel's bombast with abrupt silences and motionless bodies. In this contrast, she reveals her excellent eye for drama.'

'Those who, like Demoustier, possess worldly senses, perceive in every dance an expression of the zest for life.'
