Depuis 1993, UNITED for Intercultural Action, un réseau de centaines d’organisations antiracistes venues de toute l’Europe, établit une liste de réfugié.e.s et migrant.e.s mort.e.s en tentant de rejoindre le continent. En juin 2020, lorsque la dernière version de la liste est parue, cette dernière comportait des informations sur 40 555 décès signalés. Le nombre total de victimes est probablement bien supérieur car de nombreuses personnes ne sont ni retrouvées ni répertoriées. Lorsque l’on fait défiler les nombreuses pages de cette liste, on ne peut ignorer le fait que seul un nombre très restreint de personnes décédées sont nommées tandis que la grande majorité ne sont pas identifiées.
La juridiction européenne fait clairement la distinction entre les causes de mort criminelles, naturelles et accidentelles, ce qui détermine par la suite le traitement des corps. Lorsque plusieurs milliers de personnes trouvent la mort aux portes de l’Europe, cette taxonomie est mise en cause et le protocole de médecine légale consistant à recueillir des données médicales et biologiques sur les corps n’est pas appliqué dans la plupart des cas. Cette absence d’informations empêche toute identification future des victimes. Au fond de la mer, sur le rivage et dans les terres, une masse de corps en décomposition nous raconte l’histoire d’un collectif dont le fantôme plane au-dessus du territoire européen.
Dans le cadre de leurs recherches, Arkadi Zaides et son équipe se plongent dans la pratique de la médecine légale pour concevoir un espace de stockage virtuel recelant des informations sur les restes des nombreuses personnes jusqu’à ce jour ignorées jusque dans leur mort. Cette archive évolutive, cette carte, ce paysage invisible s’étend dans toutes les directions de l’espace-temps entrelaçant les mythologies, les histoires, les géographies et les anatomies de ceux qui ont été admis.e.s à Necropolis.
Il faut rendre leur liberté de mouvement à ces corps admis en Europe en tant que cadavres. Même si dans la Cité des Morts aucun des corps admis ne peut danser, c’est précisément ce corps, corps individuel fait de corps collectifs, corps de NECROPOLIS, que Zaides souhaite ramener à la vie .

Public images
During events organised by laGeste, an ambience photographer is regularly present. These pictures may be published on our website, through social media and in our printed material. These are mainly pictures of the artists and pictures of the audience. Sporadically you may be recognisable as a spectator in one of the photos. All photos are stored on laGeste's secure server.
Very occasionally, events are filmed. This footage can be used via social media or edited into a promotional film afterwards. It may happen that members of the public are recognised in this, although we do not focus on faces.

WHAT RIGHTS DO YOU HAVE?
As a user you also have a number of rights concerning your personal data. If you wish to invoke one of these rights, please contact laGeste directly by sending an e-mail to info@lageste.be. We will comply with your request as soon as possible.
Right of inspection and rectification: you have the right to inspect all personal data we collect from you. You can have any incorrect or incomplete data changed or deleted.
Right to be forgotten (erasure right): a visitor always has the right to have his/her data removed from our databases unless this data is necessary for the execution of a contract or the fulfilment of a legal obligation.
AMENDMENTS TO THE USER AGREEMENT
