Mandien Braems

The design practice of Mandien Braem centres around the motion of the human body, a sense of abstract exploration, and our collective consciousness. Mandien studied Musicology and Visual arts at Ghent University and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where they took a particular interest in Opera, and the effect of the visual scene on our perception of music and movement.

They are currently studying fashion design in the visual arts department of KASK, where they work with a keen interest in materiality and technique, the craftsmanship of the maker, the repeated action, the passing of knowledge. Movement and the experience of the individual takes centre stage in their creative process, the dialogue between the piece and the wearer, as well as its environment.

Mandien participated as a dancer in Ballrooms with Andrew Graham at laGeste. They continue to explore and weave care, connectedness and the communicative, ever diverse, tactile body as a thread through their practice.
