Artur Castro Freire

Artur Castro Freire is a cinematographer, camera operator, and photographer based in Lisbon and Brussels. He studied French literature and cinema at the University of Coimbra, and completed an artistic master’s degree at the École de Recherche Graphique (ERG) in Belgium.
He has worked on various film projects with renowned artists and filmmakers such as Manon De Boer, Sarah Vanagt, Dora García, Lucile Desamory, and Ronny Trocker. His work as a cinematographer has been presented in various festivals such as FID Marseille (FR), IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam), and Cineuropa.

Some of his notable works include Estate (2015), a fiction film about a migrant on a frozen beach; Beauty and the Right to the Ugly (2014), a documentary about Het Karregat in Eindhoven; In Waking Hours (2014), an art documentary about a blind woman; and Abracadabra (2010-2011), a fiction film that mixes magic and reality.
He is also known for his work as a camera operator for Metal Hurlant Chronicles (2014), a sci-fi TV series.
